Refinement
At this stage, the client has taken ownership and control of the final
product, whether CD or website. It is the client's responsibility to track the statistics and determine the success of the project, and to decide when
and if website alteration is necessary. As for a CD/DVD, once the CD project goes to Replication no changes or alterations can be made.
A good rule of thumb for static websites or CDs is to refresh the content or
the interface no less than every 6 months. If the intent of the project is mainly to reach new customers, then as long as the information presented
is not time-sensitive, updates can be less frequent. If the intent is to keep targeting return customers, or if the information is time-sensitive, then
content or interface should be refreshed more frequently to keep the returning visitors interested and engaged. Websites can be designed for
ease of maintenance by the client if so specified in the initial scope.
Dynamic websites, either e-business or e-commerce, are generally more easily updated. Administrative
functionality is built into the site structure. It is the client's responsibility to maintain and update the information in the database.
